Eco spa and leisure centre to open at Portavadie Marina
A new environmentally friendly spa and leisure centre is set to open at Portavadie Marina in Loch Fyne, Scotland by the end of 2014.
Architects Stewart Associates has been appointed to design the centre, which will be powered using local sustainable technology.
The project, still in the planning stages, is expected to include spa facilities, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, a gym, an exercise studio and a soft play area.
Local and sustainable biomass energy will be integrated into the design with a combined heat and power plant providing power to the site.
Architect Brian Stewart said: "There will be lots of glass to take advantage of the views and light and we'll blend the inside with the outside using terraces and balconies and other features.
"One idea is to design the outdoor swimming pool to give the impression that it's part of Loch Fyne. On a clear day it will feel like you're swimming over to Arran."
The spa and leisure centre will be the latest addition to the Portavadie Marina revamp, which has seen a former industrial site transformed into a tourist destination.
The marina complex is privately owned by the Bulloch family and facilities include 230 berths, luxury apartments, couples retreats, cottages and a range of restaurants and bars.
