Eastbourne school takes tourism study to German conference
The fourth Global Travel & Tourism Partnership (GTTP) conference took place last month in Bad Homberg, Germany and saw representatives of an Eastbourne school present a case study on sustainable tourism in their home town.
The GTTP is an education business partnership of nine countries and includes the Springboard Charitable Trust UK Travel and Tourism Partnership. The conference offered the chance for one school from each country the opportunity to research, develop and present a case study on a specific subject.
In the UK, all schools participating in the Springboard TTP programme were invited to submit a proposal with judges choosing Ratton School in Eastbourne as the winner.
Pupils at the school had investigated the overall impact of tourism in Eastbourne and how it could be developed. It concluded that for Eastbourne to have sustainable tourism activity, four key principles had to be adhered to: visitor satisfaction, industry profitability, community acceptance and environmental protection.
The Ratton School’s case study is now available for UK and global partnership schools to use on the TTP and GTTP websites. Details: www.springboarduk.org.uk/ttp
