Through the use of pewter, rattan and bright colours we created a warm familiar feeling of family, openness and opulence for guests to enjoy
Ed Ng, co-founder of AB Concept

The dining area, lounge and bar interiors at the new Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur create “a level of luxury and sophistication synonymous with the Four Seasons brand”, according to their designers.

Asian hotel interiors specialists AB Concept have designed the three areas, namely Yun House, The Lounge at Four Seasons and Bar Trigona respectively, with a view to merging “colonial and Asian influence” throughout them.

Yun House, the main dining area, incorporates a “decadent courtyard-style” reception that houses an onyx table and an “elaborate” pewter back panel. It uses high ceilings and natural light to “channel Malaysia’s longstanding tradition of socialising in gardens”, while marrying Western shutters and balusters to this element.

Yun House’s inspiration was derived from legends of past Canton voyagers, according to AB Concept.

Ed Ng, co-founder of AB Concept, said: “It was important that our designs paid true homage to the young man’s Chinese and Malaysian heritage. Through the use of pewter, rattan and bright colours we created a warm familiar feeling of family, openness and opulence for guests to enjoy.”

The Lounge at Four Seasons, meanwhile, is a “lavish veranda-style” space. Pale wooden accents throughout look to “pay homage to the city’s colonial history”, along with marble details. Its seating area has been designed as a “symbolic adaptation of typical colonial arrangements which have been thoughtfully combined with customary Malaysian structures”.

Finally, Bar Trigona, which can be accessed through an entryway within The Lounge at Four Seasons, is disguised by panelled doors. With “calming shades of imperial blue and teal” and and a “monumental ceiling”, the bar has been designed to act as a retreat for guests.

Incorporating leather, glass and bronze – materials traditionally used in Malaysian crafts – the bar space “embraces the connection to the cityscape backdrop”, while drawing on "the connection between Eastern culture and Western colonial influence”.

Tom Roelens, general manager at Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur, said: “AB Concept has brought our contemporary vision to life with their exquisite and thoughtful design concepts inspired by the dynamic mix of culture and cosmopolitan energy found throughout modern-day Kuala Lumpur.

“Capturing a sense of place and wonder, each outlet has its own unique personality and identity, such as the floral and leaf pattern motifs in Yun House to celebrate Cantonese culture or the symbolic rattan elements in Bar Trigona, ultimately elevating the guest experience with visual storytelling through the design elements.”
