ECB to host Twenty20 championship and Cricket World Cup
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that it has been asked by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to stage the ICC Twenty20 World Championship in 2009 and the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019.
The summer of 2009 will be a busy period of cricket, with a home Ashes series also to be held as well as the Twenty20 event.
It is possible that the World Cup may come sooner than 2019, in 2015, if the joint submission from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka fails to comply with ICC requirements.
Chief executive of the ECB, David Collier, said: “I was very proud of the ECB’s submissions for these events. They demonstrated the professionalism which we can offer when the two events come to the United Kingdom in 2009 and either 2015 or 2019.
"We know we will deliver two low-risk, high-value events which will capture the imagination of all areas of the community.” Details: www.ecb.co.uk
