Design team appointed for NIA revamp
Broadway Malyan has been appointed lead a design team that will be drawing up plans for a revamp of Birmingham's National Indoor Arena (NIA).
An eight-week feasibility study has now commenced in order to create a new-look brand for the entertainment and sports venue, which follows a £29m overhaul of sister site, the LG Arena. Turner and Townsend; Rodgers Leask; Capita; and InoxEquip will comprise the team in addition to Broadway Malyan, with the scheme's budget to be confirmed once the study is complete.
With proposed title rights and other sponsorship opportunities up for grabs, it is hoped that work could start on the NIA revamp in summer 2011. Phil Mead, managing director of Arenas - part of the NEC Group, said: "We are on the starting blocks to transform The NIA from the well-used building it is now to becoming an exciting and contemporary venue."
Broadway Malyan director Aidan Ridyard added: "Working with a client as prestigious as The NEC Group to reinvent an incredible venue like The NIA is a rare opportunity indeed."
