Derry park to be transformed after receiving HLF grant
Brooke Park in Derry-Londonderry, Northern Ireland, is to benefit from a £5m regeneration programme after National Lottery funding towards the scheme was confirmed.
Derry City Council (DCC) has been awarded £1.45m by the Heritage Lottery Fund towards the proposals, which include an overhaul of the park's sports and leisure facilities.
The gate lodge will be opened to the public and used to examine the history of Brooke Park, while a new Contact Sports Centre and a seven-a-side multi-use games area are planned.
Elsewhere, a play garden will be added to the park and a programme of activities and events is being planned over five years in order to attract new audiences.
DCC strategic director John Kelpie said: "The regeneration proposals are extensive, and will transform this important green space in keeping with the historical character of the park."
