De Vere offers free B&B in exchange for “worst experience” stories
A five-star country house hotel on the edge of Leeds is to give away bed and breakfast in each of its 150 rooms to people who describe their experience of lousy holiday hotels abroad.
De Vere Oulton Hall is offering the free B&B in a bid to help boost the appeal of tourism in Britain.
The hotel is completing a £1.6m re-styling of all its bedrooms and wants to hear from disgruntled holidaymakers who found their overseas hotels to have been a disappointment.
The hotel wants people to describe experiences such as staying in an unfinished property; suffering overcrowding, noise from builders, appalling food or poor plumbing.
Hotel general manager Rhodri Mitchell said: “Tourism in the UK needs to fight back against the perception that cheap trips abroad are always the value for money that they seem.”
A 50-word description of a foreign holiday to forget could earn a night for one or two with English breakfast, or for the “very worst experiences”, a night in one of the hotel’s seven suites. The closing date for entries is 31 July. Details/entries: email [email protected]
