Culture secretary proposes new digital channel for UK arts sector
Culture secretary Jeremy Hunt has suggested that a new permanent digital channel could be established for the UK arts sector as part of future funding agreements.
Hunt told arts and heritage sector figures that The Space, a venture between the BBC and Arts Council England, should be used as the model for a new service showcasing cultural works.
As part of a new digital channel, Hunt said that arts groups should provide free content for live broadcast under the terms of their funding agreement in order to reach new audiences.
Hunt said: "For too many of our cultural organisations, technology is still about having a good website, instead of a tool to boost artistic innovation, help fundraising and reach new audiences."
