Creamfields has positive impact on Cheshire
The tourist board for the Chester and Cheshire regions has revealed that the Creamfields music and dance festival – held this summer for the first time in the Cheshire countryside – generated £5.4m for the area’s visitor economy.
According to Visit Chester & Cheshire, the total visitor spend was £6.7m and approximately 80 per cent of that spend remained within Cheshire.
In addition, around 3,600 Creamfields visitors stayed a total of 8,892 nights in Cheshire and Warrington, contributing around £750,000 of the total revenue.
More than 41,000 visitors attended the event at Daresbury near Warrington, which was held during the August Bank Holiday weekend. A total of 90 per cent attendees came from outside Cheshire.
The total spend, excluding tickets, represents a 94 per cent increase on the income generated from the 2004 Creamfields at Speke in Liverpool.
Chief executive of Visit Chester & Cheshire, Chris Brown, said: “I’m delighted that Creamfields was such a popular success and it clearly shows the benefit of hosting such events in Cheshire. These figures are good news for our visitor economy.
"It has brought us a significant number of new visitors from the outside area. We need to work together to build on this success and create new opportunities to attract even more people in the future and encourage them to stay longer.” Details: www.visitchesterandcheshire.co.uk
