Council to consider SUFC stadium plans
Sheffield United Football Club's (SUFC) plans for the redevelopment of its Bramall Lane stadium are set to go before planners at Sheffield City Council (SCC).
The Coca-Cola Championship club aims to extend the stadium's South Stand in order to increase capacity to around 44,000 as part of efforts to boost the city's bid to be included as a host city at the 2018 World Cup. Purpose-built exhibition and conference facilities, additional banqueting space and new corporate facilities are also proposed as part of the plans, which complement the club's proposed redevelopment of the Kop stand.
SUFC executive director Jason Rockett said: "This is the latest stage in our long term strategy to drive our off-the-field income to deliver a sustainable business which can support further investment in the first team squad. "These proposals have the added benefit of bringing us in line with FIFA requirements at a time when we are proudly supporting Sheffield's bid to be host city in England's application to stage the 2018 World Cup."
The plans will go before SCC's city centre, south and east planning board on 2 November.
