Council plans Chesterfield leisure investment
Chesterfield Borough Council (CBC) has agreed to keep two leisure centres, Queen's Park Sports Centre and Staveley Healthy Living Centre, under local authority control.
The council is now proposing to invest GBP2.5m in a renovation and modernisation programme at Queen's Park Sports Centre and is in talks with potential funding partners.
A further GBP50,000 investment in a community sports outreach initiative is also being explored, which would have a particular emphasis on targeting residents from more deprived areas.
CBC executive member for leisure, culture and tourism Nick Stringer said: "We feel this is the best route to go down so that we can guarantee all members of the community access to quality and affordable leisure facilities and services."
