Council appoints Parc Eirias contractor
Wynne Construction has been selected by Conwy County Borough Council to build a new multi-purpose indoor facility at Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay.
Work will begin on site next month following the North Wales-based group's appointment, with the construction process expected to take seven months to complete. A gym and high performance sports analysis facilities are proposed for the complex, which is to be the home of the Welsh Rugby Union's (WRU) North Wales Rugby Academy.
The £6.5m facility will also incorporate classroom and conference facilities for business and commerce events. Nearly £4m has been provided by the Welsh Assembly Government, while the council and the WRU have also contributed towards the scheme.
Council leader Dilwyn Roberts said: "This Parc Eirias development is a key element in our vision to revitalise the town." A further tender processs is to be held in due course for work on the stadium pitch, which will be suitable for international rugby and football.
A pitch protection system will also be implemented to enable spectators to stand on the sports pitch for outdoor concerts.
