Cornwall Council to consider bids to refurbish Carn Brea Leisure Centre
Cornwall Council will consider bids for the redevelopment of the Carn Brea Leisure Centre at its meeting on 13 February.
Parcels of land, including parking areas and the running track, could be sold to fund the refurbishment of the facility – the first in Cornwall to be run by a leisure trust.
According to a report received by the council’s communities overview and scrutiny committee, on 6 February, the leisure centre’s future could be at risk due to rising maintenance costs and limited financial resources.
The sale of the land means the terms of the 99-year lease to the Carn Brea Leisure Trust must be renegotiated.
Last month Carn Brea Leisure Centre Trust chair Jeff Marston said trustees were encouraged by possibilities which might arise from the sale and their aim was to secure its long-term future.
