Conference green lights UK casino plans
A clear majority of delegates at the recent British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA) conference agreed that following the US model of casino expansion would be beneficial to the UK’s coastal towns.
Out of the conference’s delegates, 80 per cent felt that the US model would work in Britain, while a further 83 per cent believed it was important to concentrate the venues in a few towns, rather than spread across a wider area.
Jon Ladd, BURA’s chief exec, said: “I believe that British towns, such as Blackpool, could benefit from the overhaul of our gaming laws. We need to widen the appeal of our seaside towns to facilitate effective, long-term regeneration.”
Held in Blackpool, BURA’s coastal town conference included a speech by Nicholas Ribis, a casino developer from Atlantic City. Details: www.bura.org.uk
