Canyon Ranch appoints brand growth specialist Susan Docherty as CEO
Canyon Ranch founders Mel and Enid Zuckerman and Jerry Cohen have announced a new CEO for the brand. Susan Docherty will continue to grow and develop the brand, while the founders continue to manage Canyon Ranch’s resort locations in Tucson, Arizona and Lenox, Massachusetts.
During nearly three decades of experience at General Motors, Docherty held senior-level executive roles around the world, growing luxury brands like Cadillac and, in particular, acting as the brand architect for the iconic Escalade model.
“I am thrilled to announce Susan as CEO,” said Mel Zuckerman, co-founder of Canyon Ranch. “This business was built on heart, soul and mission – attributes that have sustained its growth for more than three decades and will continue to guide its future. As we look toward the next chapter, I am highly confident that Susan is the right person to lead the brand forward.”
Docherty said: “It is a true honour to be at the help of the world’s leading health and wellness brand, built by the pioneering spirit and vision of Mel and Enid Zuckerman. The Canyon Ranch brand is more relevant than ever, with the heightened awareness of the importance of health and wellness.”
Canyon Ranch is owned by Crescent Real Estate Holdings, along with founders Mel and Enid Zuckerman and Jerry Cohen. Crescent has been a partner in Canyon Ranch since 1996 and recently made a significant equity investment to support the brand’s growth.
Evidence of a commitment to drive the brand forward and embrace new ideas came in the form of the recent announcement that burlesque icon Dita Von Teese would lead a week’s classes on the art of seduction and health benefits of sexuality.
In January, Canyon Ranch revealed that it no longer operates its Miami Beach location, following the new owners’ failure to renegotiate the contract.
