California Wine Country spa inspired by historic hot springs
The Allegretto Vineyard Resort in Pasa Robles, California has opened with a full-service spa inspired by the mineral-rich hot springs that have made the Wine Country town a wellness destination for centuries.
The spa, operating under the direction of Sandra Cade of California-based Vici Spa Management, offers reflexology, body scrubs, Cabaletta four-handed massage, Indian head massage and facials, all using custom-crafted aromatherapy.
An infrared detox sauna, hot tub, pool, cabanas, zero-gravity chairs and meditation area are also available, and the resort’s Wellness Program features a range of fitness classes, as well as nutritional training.
Classes include Chära – a dynamic alternative to yoga – in addition to Barre & Balance, HIIT and Glow Dance Fitness. All sessions are held in the rustic, French-inspired abbey adjacent to Allegretto’s main estate.
In developing Spa Allegretto, Cade said one of her main focuses was to create a sense of peace, tranquility and wellbeing through the use of proprietary scents exclusive to the property. Practitioners use three separate aromas during the course of treatments, all designed in-house, including an “anointing” blend of Frankincense and cedarwood; an “unwind” blend of allspice, anise, cinnamon and patchouli; and an awakening blend of bergamot, sweet orange and ylang-ylang.
Cade also designed a custom line of misters, lotions and bath products that can be applied during treatments or blended by guests for purchase. French skincare brand Caudalie is also used at the spa.
“Pasa Robles is a ‘best-in-class’ destination for wine,” said general manager Anna Olson. “It’s time to match that level of quality and luxury with a best-in-class spa, and Spa Allegretto most definitely rises to the occasion.”
The 171-bedroom resort, set on 20 acres in the heart of Pasa Robles Wine Country, is owned by Ayres Hotels, a collection of boutique hotels in Southern California.
The resort is also home to hundreds of works of art, antiques and artefacts from across the globe and the ages, including a 5ft (1.5m) stone polished to a sheen after tumbling in a river in India for 5,000 years; a towering Siddhartha statue from India; and a massive cross-section from an ancient Sequoia tree.
The resort features a 12,000sq ft (1,115sq m) courtyard – the Piazza del Magico – with influences from Italian villas, Renaissance palaces and Benedictine cloisters, as well as the Cello Restaurant, which features locally farmed and foraged ingredients, craft beers and artisanal hot chocolate.
