Cairngorms NP to host A Park for All event
The Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) is hosting an event called A Park for All at the Badaguish Outdoor Centre near Aviemore in Scotland this week.
The conference taking place on 23–24 November aims to address the underlying reasons why some groups and organisations find it difficult to access the park, so that opportunities can be initiated to engage these under-represented groups.
In addition, the event will highlight the good practice already put in place regarding inclusion work.
CNPA’s education and inclusion manager, Claire Ross, explained: “This event will bring together young people, people on low incomes and people with disabilities. It will also involve partner agencies and organisations.
“Our inclusion effort will include community engagement, improving access, learning and education and outreach programmes.”
The keynote speaker will be Paul Spicker, Grampian chair of public policy at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, who has written widely on social policy, followed by presentations from the Big Issue Foundation Scotland, the Badenoch and Strathspey Youth Forum and the Upper Deeside Walking to Health Scheme.
Delegates will also be given the opportunity to experience some of the outdoor activities on offer in the park, such as archery and ranger-led walks at Cairngorm Mountain.
Participants will also discuss their potential involvement in future projects.
A Park for All proposes to build on a previous workshop involving 30 youth workers, which highlighted the range of youth work already happening across the park as well as further opportunities to strength links between young people and the CNPA.
