CSA asks new Australian government to maintain sports funding levels
Community Sport Australia (CSA) has asked for the new coalition government to maintain funding levels for sport in the country.
CSA - an independent, not for profit lobby group - wrote to the National Party shadow minister for sport, Luke Hartsuyker, ahead of last week's federal election, which saw Hartsuyker's Liberal/National Coalition take power from Labor.
In its letter, CSA asked Hartsuyker for reassurances that the existing Federal Government funding for sport would be maintained until 2016, with commitment to honour all current approved funding arrangements.
It also asked for the new government to continue to support infrastructure development required for the sustainability of community sport and high performance pathways.
The coalition crushed the governing Labor Party in last week's election and it is expected that the new government will look to cut government spending in a number of departments.
The tackling of an expected economic slowdown in Australia was one of the main election issues and incoming Prime Minister Tony Abbot said he would he would put the government's budget "back into surplus".
