CLS takes over new contract and plans new gym
Following the completion of a £700,000 revamp at Birchwood Community and Leisure Centre, the City of Lincoln Council has announced that a new fitness suite is also set to be added.
Scheduled to open on 11 June, the new fitness area will boast more than 35 pieces of cv and resistance equipment and provide the basis for a new membership scheme at the centre.
The new facility is being delivered through a new partnership between the council and Community Leisure Services (CLS), which is taking over the management of Birchwood Community and Leisure Centre.
Peter Liversidge, head of community services, leisure and sport for the council, said: “The council has an established partnership with CLS, which has successfully managed Yarborough Leisure Centre since 2004.
“Since that date, Yarborough has benefited from this partnership with an ongoing plan for £1.9m of investment.
“I am pleased to announce this partnership arrangement has now been extended to include Birchwood Community and Leisure Centre. The centre has seen many improvements over the last year and this is set to continue apace under the new management agreement.”
The recent improvement work included a new reception and entrance area, eight new changing rooms, the upgrading of football pitches and the installation of a play and heritage site.
The work was funded by the council and the Football Foundation. Details: www.communityleisureservices.org.uk
