CAA to help protect stranded travellers
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is working to help rescue thousands of UK holidaymakers left stranded abroad following the collapse of two travel companies in recent days.
Birmingham-based Sun4U, which sold package holidays to Spain and a range of other Mediterranean destinations entered administration on 12 August, all of which were ATOL protected. However, the CAA has warned that travellers who bought holidays and accommodation with Sun4U's ABTA travel agency will not be protected under the ATOL scheme.
Meanwhile, London-based Flight Options - trading primarily under the Kiss Flights brand - ceased trading on 17 August with around 13,000 travellers overseas and a further 60,000 forward bookings. The CAA said all holidaymakers will be entitled to claim a full refund for ATOL-protected parts of their bookings, while those currently abroad will be able to complete their holiday before being repatriated.
