Bridlington gets first temporary pool facilities from Olympic legacy project
Bridlington in East Riding of Yorkshire is the first town in the UK to benefit from the Olympic legacy pool scheme that has seen Olympic-standard training pools dismantled and relocated across the country.
The Bridlington project, funded by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Sport England, is the first of nine pools to be moved and was carried out by specialist company, Total Swimming. The 25m temporary swimming pool will remain at Bridlington Sports Centre for the next two years, offering local swimmers an way to keep active while the £20m redevelopment of Leisure World, the local leisure centre, is carried out.
"This pro-active approach will mean people are much more likely to carry on swimming during this period,” said Steve Parry, co-founder of Total Swimming.
“Through Total Swimming's temporary pool projects, more than 50,000 people have been taught to swim so far. However, this is our biggest project to date and we hope it will demonstrate the important role temporary facilities can play in meeting local needs while swimming pools are rebuilt or refurbished.”
The pool took four-and-a-half months to build and holds 250,000 litres of water.
