'Boy's Toy' sculpture for Park Lane
A 15ft (4.6m) sculpture of a child's hand pushing a car is set to be installed in Park Lane, London, as part of a wider project to promote art across the city.
Westminster City Council's (WCC) planning applications sub-committee has approved plans for Lorenzo Quinn's Vroom Vroom, which aims to "evoke the child within". The project has secured planning permission a week after the council green lighted the installation of a 'family' of jelly babies at Marble Arch as part of the City of Sculpture Festival.
Alistair Moss, chair of the planning applications sub-committee at WCC, said: "I think that many people feel a fondness and love for their first car which stays with them for a lifetime, and I hope this artwork brings a similar feeling of excitement to the many people visiting the West End."
