Bond is back
This month has seen the opening of Bond, James Bond, a £2m exhibition dedicated to 40 years of the big screen's most famous spy.
The 1,600sq m exhibition was designed by Studio K and is curated by the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television in Bradford, where it was first launched in April. It moved to the Science Museum with the opening timed to coincide with the release of the latest Bond movie, Die Another Day.
Running until 27 April at the Science Museum before heading off on a three year tour of the US, the exhibition contains original props, images, concept drawings, storyboards and costume designs including Oddjob's steel-rimmed hat from Goldfinger, the Aston Martin DB5 from Goldeneye and the Q boat which jumped out of the MI6 building in The World is Not Enough.
The exhibition is arranged in the series of modules, mirroring the Bond film format.
Visitors start with the pre-title sequence, learning about the origins of the character, pass through the title sequences to observe how the 'girls and guns' titles are created, before being briefed on their mission in M's office and checking out the gadgets in Q's workshop.
A death-defying stunt awaits them in the mirrored funhouse from The Man with the Golden Gun where they will come face to face with Bond's worst enemies before seeing the costumes, the stunts and the chases and finally being a part of the finale and receiving a rating on how they fared as a secret agent.
Visitors will be presented with their own personal Agent Card with a code that will allow them access to 'restricted areas' on the exhibition's website: enabling them to download desktop themes, get information on the characters and actors in the films and try an 'online mission'.
Bond, James Bond's next port of call will be the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfields Village in Michigan, near Detroit, USA. Although the current plan is to tour the US for three years, a spokesperson for the Science Museum said that it could be extended to take in other countries as many museums had expressed interest.
