Blink Fitness opens New Jersey site
US-based budget health club operator Blink Fitness has continued its expansion programme with the opening of its latest club in South Orange, New Jersey.
The 12,000sq ft (1,100sq m) club features a large gym floor with CV and resistance stations supplied by Hammer Strength, a free weights zone, a multi-use space for group exercises and functional training area.
Membership packages will start at just US$15 (€14, £12) per month and the club will offer personal training for an additional cost.
Blink will also bring its Mood Above Muscle philosophy to its newest location, aimed at promoting the idea that exercise is not only about physical fitness but also about mental health.
To celebrate the opening, Blink Fitness has pledged to donate 50 one-year memberships – worth a total of around US$10,000 (€9,200, £8,050) – to HANDS Inc, a local organisation dedicated to revitalising neighbourhoods and creating spaces for arts, culture, business, recreation and learning.
Patrick Morrissy, executive director of HANDS, said: “We are so pleased that Blink Fitness has chosen to donate these memberships to community members in neighbouring Orange and the staff of HANDS.
"As an organisation, we are committed to raising the quality of community life and that includes more options for healthy lifestyles and wellness. We are glad to welcome the club to the area."
Founded in 2011, Blink Fitness markets itself as a “premium quality but value-based fitness brand” which currently has 50 locations either open or in development throughout the states of New York and New Jersey.
Earlier this year, the chain made headlines after launching a month-long initiative at it clubs, during which mirrors were covered to help people “think about fitness differently”.
