Basingstoke Sports Trust wins the lottery
Basingstoke Sports Trust, which manages Basingstoke Sports Centre, has secured £50,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England.
Sport England has revealed that more than 1300 local sports projects across the country have now received National Lottery funding through its Inspired Facilities programme, part of the Olympic and Paralympic legacy.
Basingstoke Sports Trust will receive £50,000 of funding to go towards a project to refurbish changing rooms at the centre. James Starbuck, Chief Executive for the Trust, said "this is fantastic news for the Trust and our customers. As a charity, we rely almost entirely upon the fees our customers pay to support the facility and continue to develop it. This award means we are able to refurbish our male changing rooms and bring them up to the same quality as the rest of the building. Our customers rightly expect high standards from us and the Trust will be investing £50,000 of its own funds as well to ensure the new changing rooms deliver just that."
Maria Miller, MP for Basingstoke and Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, said: "It is fantastic news that Basingstoke Sports Trust will be part of the Olympic legacy with Sport England's Inspired Facilities programme. The new funding will enable the Sports Centre to further improve their facilities, and help them to attract more people in Basingstoke into taking up sport and physical activity."
Sport England's Chair, Nick Bitel, commented "a year on from the Olympics, this National Lottery investment is helping us to deliver a lasting sporting legacy in Basingstoke."
The £100,000 project is due to start later this year and be completed before the New Year. It is anticipated that the new changing rooms will attract new customers into taking part in sport and physical activity as well as providing better facilities for existing customers.
