Barnsley Premier Leisure venues achieve Breastfeeding Friendly Award
Nine of sports trust Barnsley Premier Leisure's venues have achieved the Breastfeeding Friendly Award, after showing that they actively encourage and support breastfeeding.
The Metrodome, Athersley Leisure Centre, Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre, Penistone Leisure Centre, Dearneside Leisure Centre, Royston Leisure Centre, Wombwell Hillies Golf Club and Hoyland Leisure Centre have all achieved the award. Barnsley Premier Leisure's training manager, Joanne Loy, said: "As part of supporting families, Barnsley Premier Leisure's venues have become Breastfeeding Friendly.
"Women should have the right to feel supported, not alienated, if they want to breastfeed in a public so we hope to create an environment at our venues where women are comfortable to breastfeed without fear of offending anyone or being upset by others." To receive the award, eighty members of Barnsley Premier Leisure staff have been trained by Breastfeeding Link Workers, employed by Voluntary Action Barnsley, on how to encourage and manage breastfeeding in their venues, as well as on how to deal with a member of the public complaining about someone breastfeeding.
