Barnet 'disappointed' with 2012 road cycle route
Barnet Council has expressed disappointment at the London borough's exclusion from the 2012 Olympic road cycling route.
On 10 February, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games revealed that the road cycling event would pass through six boroughs and Surrey. The route will include Westminster; Kensington and Chelsea; Hammersmith and Fulham; Wandsworth; Richmond upon Thames; and Kingston upon Thames.
Surrey's Elmbridge; Reigate and Banstead; Guildford; Woking; and Mole Valley districts will also feature before the riders returns to central London. Barnet Council cabinet member for customer access and partnerships Robert Rams said the decision to change original plans for the event left the borough "shortchanged".
"While Barnet taxpayers have been contributing to the Olympic Games financially, they will not reap any of the rewards," he said.
