Banksy secretly creates twisted version of Disney theme park
Banksy has reportedly created a twisted version of a Disney theme park, which the anonymous street artist is planning to open this weekend as a pop-up visitor attraction in Weston-super-Mare, England.
The subversive theme park-cum-art exhibition has been built over the past several months under the guise of a movie set at the 10,200sq ft (950sq m) abandoned Tropicana lido. Signs at the site indicated Grey Fox Production were shooting at the site, but no camera crews have been spotted and the artist’s manager, Holly Cushing, was seen there in early August.
A sinister twist on Disneyland, the set includes an alternate version to the iconic Disney castle, a horse-like sculpture, an S-shaped 18-wheeler and an array of other odd artworks.
According to The Bristol Post, Banksy’s manager set up a limited company called Dismaland, which appears to be the name of the unique attraction.
Speculation online suggests the mysterious site will open on 21 August with the Weston-super-Mare city council set to make a formal announcement before the end of the week.
