BRDC delays takeover of Silverstone management
The proposed takeover of operations at Silverstone Racing Circuit by Northern Racing has been delayed after members of the British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) – which owns the Northamptonshire property – called for more time to consider the proposal.
The board of the BRDC recommended horse-racing group Northern Racing as preferred operator in February. The company hopes to secure a 25-year operating licence for the 800-acre site, which is set for a £600m upgrade by developer St Modwen.
Elsewhere, Northern Racing has also secured planning permission for a 12-pitch five-a-side football complex at its Newcastle Racecourse and is currently in discussions with an operator to build and manage the centre.
In its preliminary results for the year to 31 December, the company announced that turnover was up to £30.6m from £29.4m in 2004 and like for like operating profit was up 40 per cent to £3.5m from £2.5m. Details: www.northernracing.co.uk
