BPL looks to help smokers kick the habit
Barnsley Premier Leisure is offering a month's free membership to smokers who are looking to quit.
The initiative, which is being run in conjunction with Barnsley Primary Care Trust, aims to encourage smokers to give up the habit for the benefit of their own health and that of other people.
Specially trained Barnsley Premier Leisure staff offer support and assistance to those who are trying to give up smoking, as well as providing vouchers for nicotine replacement therapy products, which they can use at their local pharmacy.
Barnsley Premier Leisure health and wellbeing manager, Kevan Riggett, said: "All smokers need to do is to be referred by the smoking cessation service to the Metrodome or Hoyland Centres to receive a months free membership.
"If they continue to quit smoking after the month they will be entitled to receive a further 4 months membership if they agree to keep up the good work.
"Customers must also agree to receive further support from our highly trained staff.
"Gym and leisure centre membership is available straight away, which we think is a great incentive for anyone thinking of quitting smoking.
"A number of our staff are specially trained to deliver smoking cessation techniques and can provide all the support and advice smokers need to give them a much healthier way of life, without cigarettes."
