BBC to investigate theme park idea?
A theme park based on some of the BBC's most popular children's programmes is one idea reportedly being considered by the broadcaster's children's controller, Richard Deverell.
In an interview with Broadcast magazine, Deverell revealed that he had recently visited Belgium, where children's TV producer Studio 100 currently operates three theme parks, with a fourth due to open in Holland next year. Deverell told the magazine: "CBBC and CBeebies have some much-loved brands, and we're looking at ways of making them a truly multi-platform experience. A theme park is one idea."
It is believed that Deverell's idea is yet to be discussed by BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, which would be behind any future proposals. A parliamentary committee for culture, media and sport is currently investigating the corporation's commercial operations, and its final session will be held on 10 December.
The BBC, however, has since denied that it is considering setting up a theme park. A statement from the corporation said: "Richard was simply posing a series of hypothetical questions and was certainly not putting forward actual proposals. The BBC has absolutely no intention of pursuing this."
