Auberge secures deal to manage Austin’s The Commodore Perry Estate
US-based luxury resort operator Auberge Resorts has secured a deal to operate a small luxury hotel on the historic Commodore Perry Estate in Austin, Texas, US.
The Auberge Commodore Perry Estate hotel is being developed by an ownership team led by Austin-based developers Clark Lyda, The Marchbanks Company and Austin Pfiester.
Internationally-renowned urbanist Stefanos Polyzoides – from California-based Moule & Polyzoides – is leading the project’s design team, in partnership with interior designer Ken Fulk and Clayton & Little Architects.
Described as an “urban oasis,” the hotel will have 53 guest rooms and a destination restaurant.
The exact details of the hotel's wellness spaces have yet to be confirmed, as the hotel is set to open in 2019.
In addition to the hotel, the development will house Auberge-branded residences as part of the second phase of construction, complete with access to signature hotel amenities and services.
"The Commodore Perry Estate offers an exceptional setting for Auberge's signature style of tailored luxury and unforgettable guest experiences,” said Dan Friedkin, chair, Auberge Resorts Collection.
“It will be an ideal complement to the other iconic properties in our collection."
The historic Perry Mansion was designed in 1927 by architect H.B. Thomson and features classical influences. It is considered one of Austin's premier locations for gatherings, such as weddings and social events.
Austin was named the fastest growing city in the US by Forbes in 2016, with growth being driven by its reputation as an emerging technology hub and a host of major events.
The city’s hotel market is quickly catching up with demand, with new hotels being opened at a rapid pace. Last year, a 222-bedroom Sheraton and the 171-room Archer Hotel were added to Austin’s existing accommodation stock, and wellness resort operator Miraval Group – recently acquired by Hyatt – is redeveloping the Travaasa Austin Resort to be Miraval Austin.
Austin is also home to the destination Lake Austin Spa Resort, which boasts a 25,000sq ft spa, and a recently opened spa at the JW Marriott Austin.
Last month, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts reopened a spa at its Austin property, as part of a strategy make wellness a differentiator as competition heats up in the Austin hotel market.
