Army in control of Mumbai hotel
The Indian army has taken control of the Oberoi Trident Hotel in the Indian city of Mumbai, in which armed militants had held up to 80 people hostage for nearly 48 hours.
According to a spokesperson, staff of the hotel are accompanying personnel from the security forces and are proceeding from room to room and escorting guests to the lobby level of the hotel.
"From the lobby, the guests will be led to a nearby facility where first aid and counseling will be offered," he added.
"Representatives from several consulates are also present to extend assistance. After details of each guest are confirmed, our staff will take them to other hotels in the city where arrangements have been made for their stay."
The siege followed a number of coordinated attacks around Mumbai, which resulted in hostage situations at the city's two luxury hotels – the Oberoi and Taj Mahal Palace & Towers.
At Oberoi, according to eyewitness reports, gunmen entered the hotel's Kandahar restaurant and opened fire on diners before taking control of the property.
Parts of the exterior of the Taj Palace have been ruined by fire and there are still firefights between armed police and people inside the building.
In total, more than 130 people are feared dead following the attacks and hundreds have been admitted to city's hospitals with injuries.
