Arianna Huffington to launch wellness media business
Huffington Post founder, Ariana Huffington, is to step down from her role as editor-in-chief to start a new media business focused on wellness.
The venture, called Thrive Global, will launch in November this year and offer corporate wellness services to companies to enable them improve the health of their employees.
"Thrive Global's mission is to change the way we work and live by ending the collective delusion that burn-out is a necessary price for success," said Huffington in a tweet.
The company will offer training, seminars, online learning and coaching, as well as tech solutions such as apps.
In addition, Thrive will sell a range of wellness products via an e-commerce site.
It will also join forces with a number of healthcare startups
Huffington and her sister, Agapi Stassinopoulos, have become regulars on the health and wellness speaking circuit in recent years, appearing at events such as IHRSA and the Global Wellness Summit (GWS) respectively.
Huffington wrote two books about sleep called Thrive and The Sleep Revolution and Stassinopoulos led workshops based on Thrive at the GWS 2015 in Mexico City.
Reuters is reporting that Thrive Global's Series A funding round was led by Lerer Hippeau Ventures, a venture capital fund of Huffington Post co-founder Ken Lerer. It says other investors include Sean Parker, Blue Pool Capital, Greycroft Partners and Advancit Capital.
