Architecture competition launches for Macedonia watersports centre
Young architects and students are being invited to design a public watersports facility for a popular tourist destination in Macedonia.
Budding architects can compete for their design to be used for a new sports and entertainment centre at Lake Ohrid on the west side Macedonia.
The competition is calling on entrants to draw inspiration from the history, natural landscape and culture of the area. The lake is encircled by beaches, forest and historic Byzantine monasteries.
The town of Ohrid and its surroundings were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979 for their natural values and in 1980 for their cultural and historical values.
When completed the new Ohrid watersports club will offer windsurfing, rowing, canoeing and kayaking.
The centre will also manage the annual Ohrid Swimming Marathon, and provide training for professionals taking part.
The competition winner will receive 2500€ in prize money, second prize is 1000€, and third prize is 500€. All winners will have their designs published in architecture magazines, a one-year subscription to Architecture Magazine, a display in University Ss. Cyril and Methodius, Faculty of Architecture in Skopje, and reviews in digital magazines and blogs.
The deadline for submissions is 15 June 2015 and the winner will be announced on 10 July 2015.
