Archaeology month at Archaeolink
Budding archaeologists are being encouraged to head for Archaeolink this September, as the attraction runs a programme of experimental archaeology each weekend as part of ‘Archaeology Month’.
On 1-2 September, an ‘Iron Age Grain Storage Experiment’ will take place, part of a year long experiment in storing grain underground. Also, taking place on the 2nd of September will be "Coracle Building", a reconstruction of the types of vessels used by early man.
On 8-9 September a demonstration of ‘Experimental Iron Age Cookery’ will take place where the ancient tools and techniques and using food available in the Iron Age will be demonstrated.
On 15, 16, 22 and 23 there will be a series of ‘Bronze Casting Experiments’, where basic weapons will be recreated. The 15 and 16 September will also see the return of the popular mini event weekend ‘Craft for Kids II’. Activities each day will include clay bead making and firing, braiding, felting, make your own herb bags, rush mat weaving and pictish body art.
On 29-30 September there will be a ‘Bread Oven Construction’, an experimental construction of a wattle and daub bread oven.
Every weekend in September, Archaeolink will also be running the Archaeo-dig. The dig site will be operational every weekend during the month.
As an incentive for Scottish Archaeology Month, Archaeolink are offering FREE admission before 12 noon on each of the weekends.
