An icy reception from Sportesse
Glastonbury-based Sportesse has designed and manufactures a portable ice bath.
Created following discussions with Calvin Morris, one of the fitness advisors to the England Rugby Team, the ice bath is very easy to assemble and is suitable for standing, sitting or lying down in.
Made of a tubular frame with a waterproof lining, it comes in both Team and Individual sizes.
When assembled, the Team bath is 0.7m in height, 1m wide and 1.3m in length and - without water or ice - weighs in at about 25kg. In use it takes approximately 0.75tonne of water/ice.
Ideally suited for transporting in the back of a car or on team coaches, in its dismantled state the Team bath is packed in a hardwearing, zipped bag measuring 1.4m long, 0.9m high and 0.3m wide.
When in use, the Individual bath measures 0.7m high, 0.65m wide and 1m long.
The company says that since the first Team bath was sent to the Great Britain Training Camp for the Athens Olympics, the ice baths have proved extremely popular.
In addition, the Football Association has decided that the Sportesse product is to be their chosen ice bath for all internationals and training.
Other users are reported to include the England and Ireland rugby teams, Wasps, Wigan Rugby League, Wigan Athletic, Sale Sharks Rugby, Manchester City and Newcastle United football clubs and England Netball.
