Agreement makes it simpler to work in the Australian health & fitness industry
Getting a job in the Australian health and fitness industry will now be easier for UK fitness instructors searching for a career down under.
Fitness Australia and the Register of Exercise Professionals (REP) in the UK, have agreed a mutual recognition of standards for health and fitness instructors.
This means that UK fitness instructors or advanced instructors can register for a job in a health club in Australia and Fitness Australia will will recognise their UK qualification.
Likewise, Australian fitness instructors seeking work in UK health clubs will have their credentials recognised by the REP.
In Australia, a fitness instructor and fitness trainer is recognised as the equivalent of a level 2 instructor in the UK.
A UK level 1 assistant instructor registration currently has no standing in Australia.
Fitness professionals from either country wanting to register at the higher levels will have to prove they meet the host country's standards as mutual recognition is not in place at this stage.
Ian Granger, CEO of Fitness Australia and Fitness New South Wales believes the mutual recognition register will offer excellent opportunities for fitness instructors.
'There's a lot of interest in working in Australia and this agreement means we can simplify the process and support the UK register.'
