£300m Schlitterbahn resort for Kansas
Plans for a US$300m (251m euro, £170m) Schlitterbahn Vacation Village have been revealed in Kansas, US.
The 300-acre development will include multiple entertainment venues connected by a river transport system, called Transportainment, which will ferry guests around the site.
Facilities and attractions at the village will include a large waterpark, an interactive marine park, a covered river walk with shops, restaurants and a 300-room hotel.
Accommodation will also be available in elevated treehouses and waterfront cabins, which will be integrated within the waterpark attractions.
It is estimated that the development could create up to 3,000 new jobs in the region.
Joe Reardon, mayor of Kansas, said: “We believe this development will be a tremendous fit for our community as a destination tourist attraction.
“The projections indicate that this development will provide an economic boost to Wyandotte County, creating thousands of jobs as well as tax revenue.”
Schlitterbahn estimates that the designing, engineering and construction of the resort would be completed in 36 months and has given the waterpark a tentative opening date of 2008.
Schlitterbahn Waterparks owns three waterpark attractions in US; New Braunfels, Galveston Island and South Padre Island in Texas. Details: www.schlitterbahn.com
