2012 chiefs 'committed' to affordable ticketing
London 2012 organisers remain "absolutely committed" to offering millions of affordable tickets to events at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, despite refusing to be drawn on setting a specific pricing strategy.
London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) chief executive Paul Deighton told the Culture, Media and Sport select committee that it was too early to say how much tickets will cost. Responding to a question from Conservative MP Philip Davies, Deighton revealed that organisers were unable to reaffirm a promise of making 4.3 million tickets available for less than £20 a ticket due to a changing programme of events.
Deighton said: "The only reason why it difficult at this point to talk in such specific terms as we had with our bid promise is that back then, the Games had a different portfolio of sports. We had baseball and softball, where you'd have had 700,000 tickets at the very low end of the pricing. "We want to make sure we have a very precise grip of the supply side of the tickets and what we've been working on is our competition schedule. You have to know what events you're putting on before you can know what tickets you got to sell."
