2011 Kids In Museums Manifesto launched
Museums need to be noisy in order to encourage new ideas and debate, according to the newly-unveiled 2011 Kids In Museums Manifesto.
Independent charity Kids In Museums is behind the new document, which was launched at London Transport Museum, Covent Garden, on 17 January. The manifesto contains 20 measures that attractions should adopt in order to ensure they are family friendly, including making the most of their 'wow factor'.
This year's manifesto sees museums being encouraged to welcome each visitor; to offer flexible family tickets; and to be "height and language aware". Attractions should also put themselves at the heart of developing 'conversations' between different generations of family members, as well as offering more interactive features.
Kids In Museums director Dea Birkett said: "Visitors have let us know what they want from a museum visit. And they've said they don't want to go with one, but with many generations of their family. "Museums are becoming important places for different generations to meet and have meaningful conversations, sharing histories, prompted by real objects."
