2010 WMF heritage watch list unveiled
A historic 18th century estate in County Wicklow, Ireland, and a number of 1930s buildings at a Worcestershire zoo are among six sites to be added to the World Monuments Fund's (WMF) 2010 watch list.
The global World Monuments Watch, launched in 1996 and updated every two years, aims to increase international awareness of cultural heritage sites that are facing threats from vandalism, neglect or conflict. Russborough estate in Blessington, County Wicklow, and buildings designed by Berthold Lubetkin's architectural practice Tecton at Dudley Zoological Gardens are among the UK's entries to the 2010 watch list, which comprises a total of 93 sites from 47 countries.
According to the WMF, efforts to repair and conserve Russborough's collections and landscape are suffering from a decline in visitor income, while a number of the Tecton buildings at Dudley Zoological Gardens have fallen into disrepair after being replaced by newer buildings. Sheerness Naval Dockyard, Kent; Edinburgh Historic Graveyards in Scotland; Carlisle Memorial Methodist Church in Belfast and Shobdon Church in Herefordshire have also been included.
