11 bid for Scarborough leisure village project
Scarborough Borough Council (SBC) has confirmed that it has received 11 expressions of interest from companies looking to deliver the town's new leisure village.
In September, the local authority placed a notice in the Official Journal of the European Union to start a procurement process for the development, which will include a football ground. The scheme is to be located on the former site of Weaponness park and ride facility and will see the new football ground built to Football Association Grade C standard.
A range of other leisure facilities – including a fitness club – are earmarked as part of the development, although SBC has confirmed that it is unable to contribute aside from the land. Pre-qualification submissions will now be considered before a recommendation for a long list of up to six bidders is proposed in the next phase of the process.
