Edinburgh kids try out rugby as part of Calcutta Cup tour
More than 50 Edinburgh children got the opportunity to play rugby for the first time during August through the Edinburgh Leisure-run Activator Camps as part of the Calcutta Cup 2006 tour.
The trophy, which Scotland won in February, has already been taken to a number of schools, leisure centres and rugby clubs throughout the country, and was at Edinburgh Leisure’s Ainslie Park Leisure Centre on 2 August and Drumbrae Leisure Centre on 9 August.
City of Edinburgh rugby development officer, Ben Fisher, said: “It was fantastic to have the opportunity to run fun rugby sessions for the kids – they were really enthusiastic and enjoyed the sessions, obviously with the added excitement of having their picture taken with the cup!"
The Calcutta Cup 2006 tour was launched at the Scottish Parliament in April by Scotland Head Coach, Frank Hadden, and members of the national team which beat England by 18-12 in the RBS Six Nations to win the trophy.
