Clapham Junction station redevelopment plans submitted
Delancey and Land Securities have submitted plans to redevelop Clapham Junction station as part of mixed-use scheme to the London Borough of Wandsworth.
The project is being headed by the firms' partnership The Metro Shopping Fund, and if successful will provide the station with two new entrances capable of accommodating the 1.6 million increase in users expected by 2026.
There could also be a two-level pedestrian shopping street with space for cafés, bars and retail units as well as a one-acre rooftop garden with restaurant and arthouse cinema. Plans also include new public spaces and a 42-storey residential building as well as 556 new homes.
Jamie Ritblat, CEO of Delancey, said: "This scheme provides an exciting opportunity to transform Clapham Junction station and kick start the regeneration of the area.
"We have taken a great deal of trouble to ensure that our planning and consultation processes have been conducted through an open and transparent process, involving all stakeholders, local residents and businesses in particular. Ultimately, it is they who will benefit from the new facilities, which we hope will create a vibrant new heart for the area."
The plans have been developed in consultation with Network Rail and designed by London-based architects ColladoCollins.
Mick Martin, commercial property director for Network Rail, said: "Improvements to the station are integral to transforming the area, so delivering the new entrances is crucial. Network Rail has a long-term strategy in place to improve Clapham Junction station and our work with the Metro Shopping Fund is a key part of these plans."
