$10m upgrade for Houston spa
The Houstonian Hotel, Club and Spa is investing $10m in renovations, including a new 17,000sq ft spa and a resort-style swimming pool.
The new two-storey spa, set to open next month, is currently under construction at the Houstonian's 18-acre wooded site in Houston, Texas.
Known as Trellis, the new facility will replace the club's existing 5,500sq ft spa, which will become the site of a new swimming pool due for 2004.
The U-shaped, salmon-coloured stucco building will have 19 treatment rooms, with space to expand, eight hair stations, seven manicure stations, four pedicure stations, locker rooms, a whirlpool and quiet rooms.
The spa is being designed around the themes of forest and water and will include a float pool, a waterfall flowing into the float pool, an indoor water pond and water features in the lounge, quiet rooms and courtyard.
Spa guests will also be made aware of a 'water ritual' sequence, taking in showers, steam, aroma steam, cool shower, hot whirlpool and float pool.
Products and treatments at the spa will include Carita, Phytomer and Decléor. Services will include facials massages, wraps, pre and post-natal treatments and men's treatments.
Houston-based Redstone Cos., which owns the Houstonian, has postponed the building of an indoor tennis facility and car park in order to build the spa, which will open to htoel guests, club members and the general public. Details: www.houstonian.com
