Pendle Leisure Trust case study – Lighter and More Active
04 Jul 2024
Alan was referred to the Up & Active Team six months ago via the Pendle Primary Care Network health and wellbeing coach service.
The aim to get more active and lose weight to better manage his health conditions.
Alan initially met with one of the health activators, Luke. A plan was agreed to start with a light exercise class (Strength and Balance) alongside taking part in the Eat Well Keep Well, Weight Management programme.
Alan’s main concern was that his knee pain was going to limit his exercise capabilities. However, Alan’s dedication to his joint strengthening exercises both in the class and at home soon allowed him to increase his walking stamina and he is now out walking daily.
This, combined with some adaptations to his eating habits started to result in consistent weight loss. Alan’s aim was to lose 1-2 lbs each week, which allowed his progress to be sustained over the 12-week programme and beyond.
To date Alan has lots a total of three stones and has also significantly reduced his medication needs. Alan also notes that his mental health has significantly improved and that he is far more confident and positive than he was before he started.
Since completing the 12-week programme, Alan has further stepped up his fitness regime and now attends the gym three times per week as well as light exercise classes.
